Want to know the one skill in the water that swimmers should have but rarely focus on?
You focus on kicking.
Going hard
Going faster
Going farther
But there’s one key part of the stroke that rarely gets mentioned.
Even when I read other coaches’ advice, they skip it. They talk about,
Rolling
Distance per stroke
Catching the water
Having a high elbow recovery…
All of those points are very important. But you won’t be able to work on them until you’ve got the most important basic swimming skill down…
You have to be BALANCED in the water
Balanced in the water means you’re comfortable in any position; on your stomach, back and most importantly for freestyle…on your sides.
Until you can get comfortable and stable being on your side, it’s impossible to work on all the other points.
So what are the best ways to work on balance in swimming?
My next post will cover them.
